  • Had Your Tea Leaves
    Read Lately?
Have A Look At The Bottom Of The Cup

See green leaves in your mug a couple of times a day? If you do...all signs point to long-term benefits for your HEART. So much information and research that I have read lately indicates that just two cups a day of polyphenol-rich green tea can dramatically reduce the risk of dying from heart disease and can cut the risk of stroke in women as well. Wondering what the future holds? Put your money on green tea
    not fortune-tellers.

What's The Longevity Benefit?   Getting the right amount of antioxidants — polyphenols act like them — through diet or supplements can make you live 6 years longer!

The polyphenols in green tea gobble up free radicals and improve artery function, both of which help keep diseases at bay. Drinking 2 cups a day (about 500 milliliters) can cut the risk of death due to cardiovascular disease by 26 percent. And the more green tea you drink, the more protection you get.

Two cups a day isn’t a lot, but even if you don’t average that much green tea daily, don’t give it up. Drinking at least half a cup a day has been linked to some reduction in mortality risk. So grab a teacup... and drink to a healthy future.

  • Friendship Contributes To
    Your Longevity!
Can you name Three close friends that you see regularly?  If you can't you are not alone!

Twenty years ago, most people had about three close confidants; today, we average about two. That doesn’t bode well for long-term health and well-being. Is your world getting smaller? Give... and get... the gift of friendship this year. Make a batch of cookies and head to a friend's place just to say 'HI".

Cell phones, e-mail,  text messaging, social networking on the internet... Skype... they all let you reach out to anyone, anywhere, anytime. But despite being better connected, most of us have fewer confidants to turn to when we need help, advice, or just a willing ear and an open mind.

So nurture the friendships you have, and work toward building new relationships. You’ll be doing a good thing for yourself... and your new friends. A supportive social circle can make you years younger by acting.

What's the Longevity Benefit? Having a good social support system of family and friends can help you live up to 3.5 years longer.

  • Old Age May Mean
    A Happier Age!

There is a very important reason for taking care of our bodies as we mature... They tell us that we will likely be happier when we are older.

It turns out that growing older isn’t such a drag. Time and time again, 70-year-olds report higher levels of happiness than 30-year-olds. Are you happy?

Why might older adults be happier? It could be that the kind of maturity that can only come with age allows people to keep an emotional even keel. Or that with advancing years, we simply become more skilled at coping with our circumstances — even those that are life changing. Whatever the reason, it’s good news for our health.... that is if we have taken care of our bodies earlier.

We can expect a really full and fun life when we age... but it won't be fun if we are falling apart.
Less stress emotionally won't matter if we have stress over our health.

No matter what our current age is... we can take action today to be more healthy.
It is amazing how much information there is about how to take better care of ourselves... the internet will tell you anything you want to know... so will OPRAH!

Planning to exercise consistently and eat well every day will pay off!

  • Have One of These A Day...
    To Keep Colds Away
Here In OZ we've hit the season... The season for the common cold.
So... ADD A WORKOUT!... Every Day

You don’t have to let sniffles spoil your fun. Adding a little SWEAT to your day may help keep colds away. A new study shows that a 45-minute workout each day, 5 days a week, lowers the risk of catching a cold. And the longer you stick with a regular exercise program, the better the benefits. So dust off your walking shoes or your gym gear and start building up your immunity.

What's The Longevity Benefit?....Protecting your immune system can make you live as much as 6 years longer... and live a much better quality of life along the way.

Past research has hinted that moderately intense activity is an immunity booster, but those studies were too short to be convincing. More recently, and for the first time, researchers took the long view and studied two groups of women — one basically sedentary and one not — for a year. And the results are truly motivating: Overweight couch potatoes who started exercising and stuck fairly close to their five-times-a-week workout program had a definite cold-fighting edge over a similar group of women whose regular exercise consisted of just a weekly stretching routine.

You may already be enjoying the benefits of a revved-up immune system if you are a regular exerciser. If not, get to it. You’ll enjoy knowing that your sweat is helping ensure that you won’t be sidelined by sniffles and sneezes.

  • Attitudes Are Often More Important Than Facts!
Is YOUR glass half empty or half full?
Your answer may affect your blood pressure.

Older people who have a sense of self-worth, feel happy and hopeful, and enjoy life have lower blood pressure compared to their more pessimistic peers. Here’s how they say that good feelings can reach all the way into your blood vessels.

Good feelings can help reduce levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that’s related to high blood pressure. So the benefits of good feelings don’t stop at just feeling good. Researchers speculate that the chemical and neural reactions people have to positive thoughts and feelings may help keep all of the body’s various systems in balance. So your heart, your arteries — even your immune system — benefit.

Have you harnessed the power of positive thinking... and therefore YOUR Positive EXPECTANCY?
Here’s how to cope, adapt, and react to life’s trials and tribulations in more positive ways:

    •   ALWAYS look on the bright side during times of change.

    •   Make a list of the possibilities and opportunities that could come out of any obstacles you face.

•Surround yourself with happy, positive people. They may rub off on you! And strong social ties help you power through the tough times in life.  THIS ALSO MEANS AVOID THE QUICKSAND CROWD... staying away from negative people is a major key to remaining positive!

    •  Cultivate positive emotions... it is one good thing you can do for your blood pressure... start being more aware of your thinking and your emotional responses... it's a choice.. you can think and react in a positive and balanced way.  THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT.

    •   Eliminate negative inputs... think about what you are watching on TV and what you are reading... choose to FEED IN good things... watch comedies... read positive stories... LAUGH MORE.

What is the Longevity Benefit?  Laughing and remaining positive can make you live up to 8 years longer.
